About

Christine Love-Rodgers, Academic Liaison Librarian for Divinity, University of Edinburgh (New College Librarian)

I look after  buying books and journals for Divinity at New College Library, electronic journal and book subscriptions,  New College Library planning,  policy and projects (including Special Collections projects), and helping staff and students to use the Library.

I’m blogging about New College Library,  especially bringing forgotten rare books into the light and making links between these historic New College Library collections and the current activities of the School of Divinity.  All done with the help of my colleagues in the Helpdesk and Cataloguing teams here at New College Library.

I would like to purchase the DVD of “How an Olympic champion became a missionary” on Eric Liddell’s story.
    How can I do this?

    Dear Christine,

I have been trying to get a copy of Mak, Siu Fai’s dissertation named: “A contemporary Christian response to ancestor practice in China”. It was a doctoral dissertation submitted to the New College, The Centre for the Study of Christianity in the Non-Western World in 2006. I went to the U of E’s library website and could not locate it. Can you help? Thanks!

I was wondering if a color photo of the portrait of Walter Chalmers Smith is available? He is my great-great grandfather.

Hi Christine, it is heartening to see the blog on New College library collection. It is a good way to reach out to the wider academic community, of which I belong. As an alumni of New College (PhD graduate, 2010), how can I benefit from its resources? I was hoping to go to Edinburgh and do some research for a book for two weeks at New College library and the main library. How could I access the library, as well as use the internet facilities in the library?
    Thank you

      Dear Siang,
I’m very glad you like the blog. As an alumni, you are entitled to free reference access to New College Library. Reduced fees also apply for borrowing membership. Unfortunately there is no entitlement to access EUL online resources. You may be able to register with the NLS who offer access to a number of digital resources.
      Christine
